으 젤 싫어하는 부분중 하나인 셀수 있는(없는) 명사, 관사

기본적으로

1. 셀 수 있는 명사: singular의 경우 a/an 필요, 동사는 singular/plural 맞춰서 사용

 - Give an example of how you archived  →  a goal  단수일 경우 관사 a/an

 - An impressive resume is important.  →  resume 1개 단수일 경우 singular verb인 is

 - Candidates face stiff competition.  →  후보자 복수의 경우 face

2. 셀 수 없는 명사: 항상 singular. a/an, -s 등 같이 사용하지 말 것, 동사는 항상 singular

 - Explain how your work can save money.   셀 수 없는경우는 관사 안붙임

 - Feedback from a counselor is invaluable.   feedback은 셀 수 없으니까 동사는 항상 singular

 - Research shows what employers look for.   research도 셀 수 없으니까 역시 singular

3. countable noun에 대한 general한 이야기를 할 때 --> plural

ex) I like bananas. 난 바나나가 좋음ㅋ

교재 내용

 - permission 셀 수 없음.

 - graduate 졸업생의 경우 쓸 수 있음. (c.f., alumni 는 동문)

 - help 셀 수 없음

 - feedback 셀 수 없음

 - research 셀 수 없음

그럼 본격적으로

- skill, experience countable/uncountable 둘 다 가능.

- fruit는 셀 수 없지만 banana, apple 등은 셀 수 있다. 특이하게도 vegetable은 셀 수 있다 -_-

- work는 셀 수 없다. homework, artwork 등등 다 셀 수 없다. 

 하지만 assignment, job 은 셀 수 있다

- vocabulary, slang은 셀 수 없다. 근데 word, idiom은 셀 수 있음

- information, advice, evidence 셀 수 없다. 쟤네를 세고 싶다면 a piece of information 을 써야함.

 근데 fact는 셀 수 있다. 

- paper 종이를 얘기할땐 셀 수 없지만 논문같은거를 의미하는 paper는 셀 수 있음.

- coffee, beer, wind soda 등등 보통 셀 수 없지만 그냥 가게가서 2 coffees 하고 얘기함.

이거도 정석대로라면 2 cups of coffee 해야함

- fish, chicken, hamburger 고기를 의미할 때는 셀 수 없다.

  = 근데, 그냥 물고기는 셀 수 있음. I caught three fish. 물고기 3마리 잡음! 형태는 단수형

  = The ocean has hundreds of fishes.   -->  type of fish를 얘기할 때는 복수형으로 씀.

  = 역시 chicken도 동물을 얘기하면 앞에 a chicken / 2 chickens 이런 것이 가능하다.

  = 마찬가지로, hamburger도 맥도날드 빅맥같은거 얘기하는거라면 a hamburger / 2 hamburgers 가능.

- time 기본적으로 셀 수 없음. 근데 I've been there three times 처럼 3번 이런거 얘기할 땐 셀 수 있고,

    one time, three times 가능함

- glass 유리의 경우 셀 수 없지만 유리잔의 경우는 셀 수 있음. 안경은 그냥 glasses. a glasses 이런거 없음.

- crime, education, marriage 각각 일반적인 사실을 이야기 할때는 uncountable. 

all the marriages she did? she has committed 23 crimes 이럴땐 셀 수 있고..

education은 뭐지 아 영어 진짜 싫다

view 사람의 의견의 의미는 셀 수 없음. 근데 시야? 장면? 이런건 셀 수 잇음.

I have a headache.  이건 fixed expression으로 그냥 반사적으로 a 붙인다.

The Pacific. 태평양 고유명사에 the 붙임.

the biggest / the second best  최상급 앞에 the

breakfast, lunch, dinner 는 셀 수 없음. meal 은 셀 수 있음. a meal, three meals

Watch TV  이거도 fixed expression. 

보통 watch the movie, listen to the radio 이렇게 the를 붙이지만 TV는 그냥 관사없이 감

software  셀 수 없음ㅋㅋㅋ

으 나 죽는다ㅜㅜ

1. One of my coworkers was absent from work without any contact.

There might be a couple of reasons for the absence,

so, we thought that he had some problems with what he ate. 

Anyway, it turned out that he had got a food poisoning, 

and incompletely cooked 삼겹살 was the main cause of his sickness. 

But there were huge impacts on his absence.

Due to his disease, we had an increase in work which was supposed to be his job.

2. If there were no effects of over-eating on appearance and health, what would I do?

I know the relationship between them, but I don't want to accept the truth. 

People have a concern about their appearance. 

Nobody wants to be seen like a pig.

There is a lot of information about health and food in internet,

and every article says that 

eating something too much or something at night is a bad attitude toward our health.

There should be more researches on food and health 

to make a better world by eating at night without any concerns.

- keep it cool / keep it low 진정해, 이성을 찾아라 --> 마치 idiom 처럼 가운데 it은 웬만하면 바꾸지 않음

- keep something down 역시 이성을 챙겨

- hair 셀수 없음. uncountable

- think 는 타동사로, 뒤에 전치사가 와야함 (about) 이게 싫다면,

consider 혹은 regard 등으로 대체할 것.

Think about it / consider it

- We can know   know 앞에 can은 어색함.

그냥 we know 를 쓰거나

we can realize, we can find out 등으로 대체할 것
